A surgeon works by the feel of the instrument. For that to hold, the twentieth piece in a series has to close, grip and cut exactly like the first. Which is why each one goes under the microscope on its own.

The Misconception

“As long as it holds and is cheap. Precision is the same everywhere in the end.”

This is how buying works when an instrument is treated as a consumable. Price decides, origin is secondary, and differences are not noticeable in the catalog. Only on the tissue does it show what a tenth too much play means.

The Truth

In microsurgery the micrometre decides, not the millimetre.

The difference between separating cleanly and crushing is made where a machine alone cannot go any further: in the fine grinding, in the feel for perfect balance, in the last check under the microscope. Those are exactly the steps that cannot be rationalised away, only mastered.

Why we do this

A senior surgeon explained to us what a pair of scissors does when it is only nearly good.

He heads a paediatric cardiac clinic, and he told us their scissors did not cut properly during procedures on children’s hearts. Not once. Again and again.

You have to picture what he was describing. He compared it to a peanut, that is how small the structures are that are worked on there. A pair of scissors that does not separate cleanly but crushes, or slips at the tip, is not an annoyance in that place. There, every single cut counts.

We trained as surgical instrument makers and we know what an edge looks like when it is only nearly right: the gap at the tip the eye cannot see, the play in the joint that appears after twenty sterilisation cycles. What we did not know before that conversation was what it means for the person holding them. A surgeon cannot briefly set aside scissors that will not cut.

That is why we build instruments ourselves instead of buying them in and printing our name on them. And why every pair of scissors here goes under the microscope before it leaves the building.

Why we do this

Four things a dealer cannot say.

We do not buy instruments in and print our name on them. We build them. That has four consequences you notice on every single piece.

We build them ourselves

No container, no relabelling. Blank, milling, laser welding, grinding and release all happen at one site in Aach, powered by our own roof.

We make the parts

Ratchets, milled parts, turned parts and screws come from our own production. That is why an instrument from us is still repairable in twenty years instead of waste.

We own ourselves

A family business, no investor and no head office. A batch can be stopped because a tip is not right, without anyone having to ask permission.

We train the trade

About fifty people in Germany train as surgical instrument makers each year. A craft that rare has to be passed on or it disappears.

Brian Fürderer

Growing up in the Tuttlingen region, the world center of medical technology, Brian Fürderer came into contact with the manufacturing of surgical instruments early on. What began as a fascination with precision became a calling. After training as a surgical instrument maker and several years in the industry, he founded MICROQORE MEDICAL with a clear stance: to make instruments that know no compromise. Not the cheapest, but the best.

Do you also manufacture to your own drawing (OEM)?
Yes. We manufacture surgical instruments as OEM and contract manufacturing to your specification, from the drawing to the inspected end product, documented to ISO 13485:2016.
To which standard do you manufacture?
To ISO 13485:2016, the quality management system for the development and manufacturing of medical devices. Every manufacturing step is documented and traceable.
Which materials are the instruments made from?
From surgical stainless steel and titanium. Titanium here is solid metal, not a coating: around 40 percent lighter and non-magnetic. Tungsten carbide inserts and DLC coating are available in addition, depending on the application.
Do you offer repair and refurbishment?
Yes. Repair, resharpening, passivation, alignment and laser marking are among our services. A MICROQORE instrument is designed to last decades and can be repaired.
How do I get prices and a quote?
